Under 14 Footballers – Treble Winner

Minor Footballers – SW League Division 1 and All County B Champions

In 2009 our under 14 footballers carried on the success the U12’s had last season. Success arived early, with the 33 man strong panel winning a coveted South West Féile title, losing the All County final narrowly to Rossa. We also won division 1 of the SW leagbue, winning 13 of 15 games, including a 10 game unbeaten streak from the start!

The winning habit continued to the championship, a second half semi-final fight back seeing off a strong Creggan Tea, with revenge exacted in the final against Glenavy, to whom we had lost the league, although extra time was required to win the south west title.

Unfortunately in the All County ‘A’ final, we agian lost to our rivals Rossa, losing by a single point, having led by 3 at half time. A treble winning season was capped by the selection of 3 players for the U14 Development Squad, Niall Heatley, Mark Gillen and Tiernan McNicholl.

2009 was an exceptional season for our Minor footballers. Playing in the South West league for the first time we were blessed with 14 league matches, 12 of which we won, winning hte league as well as three championship matches, qualifying for the all county championship final. The match was played under lights at Casement Park against our near rivals Ardoyne Kickhams. For most of the team, this was the first time they had ever played at Casement and despite being very nervous in the first half, the lads performed to their true potential in the second half and ran out winners with two late goals to win a championship and league double.

Added to this we were honoured with two of our players being selected for the county minor squad – Sam McWilliams and Hugh Campbell with a further four players graduating to the Club’s senior football squad
