SW ANTRIM FOOTBALL BLITZ

May 2, 2018

Every day at Páirc ÉANNA is busy, but Sunday past (Sunday 29th April) saw a busy morning of football and the Camogie.

First up where the P4&3 Footballers to host the first South West Antrim Football Blitz of 2018.

na hÉanna Óga where hosting teams, from Naomh Mhuire Ahoghill, Cú Chullains Dún Láthaí (Dunloy), Naomh Muire Rasharkin, St Ergnats Moneyglass, and Naomh Pól Hollywood, Naomh Éanna also had four teams competing, two at P3 level and two at P4 level.

Thanks to the organizing team and parents, the games started on the hooter at 10am, each game running for twelve minutes and a five minutes break between each game, the Go Game ethos of everyone gets a go is the clear focus of these development games, each game was officiated by the Naomh Éanna young whistlers. Match refereeing is a big part of ensuring that games can be played and correctly officiated, to this end Naomh Éanna runs a very successful scheme where young players can take advantage of the referee training courses and complete the stages to become a fully-fledged referee.

Over the years Naomh Éanna has become renowned for its hospitality, family fun days, Sean Fox days, Summer BBQ, Fundraising event and all round inclusivity, Sunday was no different, each of the teams, the coaches, mentors and parents and visitors where well refreshed after the games had concluded, events like these take a significant amount of organizing and a special word of thanks must be given to Fiona Dowds and Tierna Cunningham, who worked tirelessly to ensure everything and everyone was looked after.

On the football front the SW Antrim Blitzes have been a great success for Naomh Éanna, the opportunity for everyone to participate and have fun, has seen the numbers at underage football, hurling and camogie grow year on year. This is in no small part to the community work, the developing of relationships and strengthening of ties with the local schools, local families and of course the players themselves, who return week in week out to express themselves through our ancient Gaeilge games.

The SW Antrim Blitz now move to another south west club to host and in a fortnights time it will be the turn of Naomh Séamus Aldergrove to host the next blitz.
