U10 Hurling Corn Iúil Éanna – U10 hurling blitz at Naomh Éanna CLG

Sun 2nd July saw 30 U10 hurling teams from across Ulster, Louth and Dublin take part in the Naomh Éanna Invitational U10 hurling blitz up on the Hightown Road complex.  A fabulous day weather wise was matched with great skill and endeavour from all the participating teams.  The day commenced with the parading by the O’Neill & Allsopp Memorial Flute Band from the Newlodge Road.

24 teams participated for the Cup and Shield events and 6 teams competed for the Plate and everyone wanted to reach the final, evidenced by the passion on the pitch, on the faces of the management teams on the sidelines and in the disappointment and joy on players faces, depending on how well teams performed.

The Cup final was won by Ruairi Og from Cushendall who went undefeated throughout the whole tournament,  an excellent display of fielding high ball, scoring and all round team play.  They defeated an excellent Lavey team who reached the final following a last second goal against Ballycastle in the semi final.

The Shield final was won by Eoghan Ruadh Dungannon who edged out a great Portaferry team

The plate final was secured by Bredagh who after a tight contest in the final, edged out St Paul.s, Belfast with 2 late goals

Credit to the U10 coaches for their initiative and delivering, for all the supporting coaches manning the tents and coordinating the pitches, the referees, the runners who carried the scores back to the coordinating tents, the teams of people who provided lunches for all the teams, manned the shop and Cafe Eanna, the lads who transported teams and families between the club and ERC. And to Martin McAllister of MCA Design and Print for the excellent booklet.

A special thanks to our sponsors Larkin O’Connor and Cassidy solicitors (Carlisle Circus) and O’Kane Electrical for the generous sponsorship of the awards

Congratulations from Naomh Éanna to all the participating teams and it is expected that a bigger event will take place next year the clubs sporting calendar
